Compulsory social insurance — benefits and limits 2025

We are pleased to present you with the latest information on compulsory social insurance for 2025! From January 1, 2025, there will be a number of important changes affecting both AHV pensions and occupational benefits. The minimum and maximum AHV pensions are increasing, and the minimum contributions for self-employed and inactive persons are also being adjusted. There is also news about family allowances, which are also being increased. Stay informed and benefit from the latest developments!

AHV

AHV pensions are adjusted to current price and wage developments (mixed index). The minimum pension rises by CHF 35, the maximum pension by CHF 70. The minimum contributions for self-employed and inactive people rise to CHF 530 per year. The limit for low income (AHV-exempt) will be raised to CHF 2,500 per year.

**BVG** The adjustment of AHV pensions also has an impact on occupational pensions. All limits such as entry threshold, coordination deduction and insured salary are changing. On September 22, 2024, voters rejected the BVG reform. As a result, no significant changes in the areas of retirement credits and the conversion rate are expected in the compulsory occupational pension scheme by 2026. Pension funds with supra-mandatory solutions have already made adjustments in connection with increasing life expectancy and will continue to do so.

TBSP

In the case of supplementary and bridging benefits, the amount is adjusted to cover general living needs.

Familienzulagen FamZG

The minimum rates of family allowances rise to CHF 215 per month and the training allowance to CHF 268 in the cantons of ZH, GL, SO, BL, AG. TG and TI, this results in an automatic increase, as these cantons only pay out the minimum rates. In the other cantons, increases may be made, but they do not have to, as in addition to the Federal Family Allowance Act, there are also cantonal laws that can regulate higher child and education allowances.

health insurance

An average increase in health insurance premiums of around 7% is expected.

Increasing the retirement age of women in AHV and BVG

The reference age (new term for retirement age) of women is gradually being increased by three months per year. The increase starts in 2025.

The reference age of women is increasing as follows:

As a result of AHV revision 21, the years 1961 — 1969 (women) belong to the transitional generation. Women of this generation who do not advance their retirement benefits receive a lifetime monthly supplement to their pension. The supplement is staggered according to income. From 2028, there will be a uniform reference age of 65 years for women and men. This also applies to occupational pensions.
